The 16th century saw the rise of Mughal Emperor Akbar, who conquered his enemies in a remarkable and distinctive manner. Unlike his predecessor Genghis Khan, who pillaged and decimated the towns he captured, Akbar instead embraced and integrated his new subjects, showing a deep appreciation for their diverse religious and cultural beliefs. This is evident in the exquisitely detailed chess pieces of the Regency Chess Collection, each one beautifully representing its individual identity, such as the ornate tabletop rook.

While still maintaining the classic Staunton shape, these chessmen are crafted from luxurious solid rosewood. The intricately carved knight, known as the most strategic attacker and defender in the game, features an elegant, arched horse with a detailed mane. Each piece in the Garvi Series showcases unique styles, similar to the diverse subjects of Emperor Akbar, while also reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the emperor himself.

Crafted from exquisite rosewood, each piece was delicately hand turned. The design of the queen draws inspiration from the majestic minarets of the Taj Mahal, a towering symbol of Mughal architecture. Her elegant headdress, adorned with a decorative spire, rivals only the king's crown in grandeur. The Hindi word "Garvi" translates to "proud", a fitting name for these regal chessmen, with the king standing at an impressive 4 inches tall. To fully showcase their splendour, a board measuring 21 inches (55 cm) is required for the Garvi Series.
